Professors of BME GTK and BME ÉPK participated in the conference of the Faculty of Hungarian Studies of Indiana University.

Professor György Ránki used to be the head of the Faculty of Hungarian Studies of Indiana University. The György Ránki Hungarian Chair Conference was organized for the 33rd time this year at the Bloomington Campus of the University.

The event was organized by János Balázs Kocsis, associate professor of the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences, Budapest University of Technology and Economics, visiting professor at the Department of Central Eurasian Studies, Indiana University and the Department of Central Eurasian Studies (CEUS). At the conference entitled Transformations of Urban Social Fabric in East Central Europe, 1880 to present distinguished experts of sociology, history, urban planning and architecture discussed the regional and urban development trends of East Central Europe and presented their recent studies.
 

Béla Janky, associate professor of the Department of Sociology and Communication of the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences and Melinda Benkő, associate professor and head of the Department of Urban Planning and Design, Faculty of Architecture also represented BME at the event.

The conference created an opportunity to present Hungarian scientific activities present in Bloomington for several decades and developing constantly to a wider audience. Participants were students and professors of Indiana University and also visitors mostly with Hungarian origins from Indiana and the neighbouring states. As János Kocsis informed us the event’s importance was raised by the presence of László Böjtös, honorary consul arriving from Cleveland and the participation of professors from Cleveland State University, where Hungarian Studies are being restarted.
