Representatives of fifteen leading European technological universities met in Budapest to discuss current issues of the network.

The opening address of the ATHENS (Advanced Technology Higher Education Network/Socrates) AGM was deliveredby Krisztina László, Vice Rector of BME for International Affairs. On 17 June the representatives of the network’s 15 universities attended the event, which was held in Budapest in 2003 for the first time.

After the meeting the representatives of the partner universities were pleased to join a sightseeing tour of Budapest led by Bálint Kádár, assistant lecturer at the Department of Urban Planning and Design, Faculty of Architecture.

The principal goal of the network, established in 1997, connecting 15 leading technological universities in Europe, is to organise intensive one-weekacademic courses twice a year, in March and November. The 30-hour training sessions also offer the students of the member universities a chance to get to know the local culture as part of the „European dimension activity”. The courses are taught by the professors of the host universities to the foreign students. There are approximately 150 courses a year in English, French and Spanish with 5000 participants.

In the case of BME the courses organized by the Faculties of Civil Engineering and Architecture attract a lot of participants, says program coordinator Dóra Fekete. In the academic year 2016-2017 the Faculty of Chemical Technology and Biotechnology also offers courses, adds the coordinator of the Central Academic Office’s International and Scientific Section.
