The Budapest University of Technology and Economics is one of the top 35 universities in emerging Europe and Central Asia.
The Emerging Europe and Central Asia (EECA) rankings published by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) contain the indicators and results of 350 universities. The international list includes 17 higher education institutions from Hungary: BME ranks 34th and is the third best university (Eötvös Loránd University is the 28th, University of Szeged is the 33rd, University of Debrecen is the 37th) in the national comparison.

BME performed well compared with other technology universities in the neighbouring or Visegrad countries. Only 3 on the list out of these 25 universities rank higher than BME: the Czech Technical University in Prague, the Warsaw University of Technology and the Brno University of Technology.
Unlike the QS's world rankings, the EECA is a regional list, which reflects the quality offered by the universities in emerging countries, working in a similar funding environment, in a more objective manner, by excluding both American and British universities. The ranking results are based on 9 weighted indicators: academic and employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, papers per faculty, citations per papers, staff with PhD, web impact, international faculty and international students.
