BME named again as highest ranking Hungarian university in number of papers

BME ranks 1st in several performance areas assessed in the Quacquarelli Symonds regional ranking of Eastern European and Central Asian universities this year.

Ranking first has been Lomonosov State University Moscow for the third consecutive year. This year the 2nd and 3rd places are also occupied by Russian Universities, Novosibirsk State University and Saint-Petersburg State University, respectively. (Last year’s 3rd ranking Charles University in Prague dropped to fourth place).

BME climbed 10 positions from the 32th place, and based on the overall scores is now ranked 22th out of the 200 universities featured, thus becoming the second best insitution in Hungary.

The institutions were assessed by several different indicators. Indicators used in calculating the rankings include academic reputation, employer reputation, student to facultyratio, proportion of staff with a PhD, papers per faculty, citations per paper, percentage of international faculty and students and web impact.

This year BME is again the best Hungarian university with respect to the total number of papers, and in the ranking it comes at the 7th place out of all institutions featured.(This year the total citation and paper counts were normalized by faculty areas, and papers whose contributors come from too many different institutions were excluded.)

Based on the indicator of web impact BME, maintaining last year’s position, ranks 2nd in Hungary, and climbing three places occupies the 11th place out of all universities in the ranking.

Based on the indicator of employer reputation BME is the 3rd best university in Hungary again, and climbing two places ranks 9th in Eastern Europe-Central Asia.

As regards the academic reputation BME comes 5th in Hungary, and, climbing one place, it occupies the 39th place in the overall ranking. (The highest weighting academic and employer reputations were calculated back 5 years instead of three this year.)
