New Deans Appointed at the Faculties of Architecture, Economic and Social Sciences, and Transportation Engineering and Vehicle Engineering
2025. 08. 01.As of August 1, new deans have taken the helm at three of BME’s eight faculties.
The former deans of the Faculty of Architecture (ÉPK) and the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences (GTK), György Alföldi and Tamás Koltai, respectively, have completed their terms of office. Meanwhile, István Varga, former dean of the Faculty of Transportation Engineering and Vehicle Engineering (KJK), has assumed a new role as Strategic Vice-Rector.
Tamás Varga, the new dean of ÉPK, is an associate professor in the Department of Residential Building Design. He previously served as vice dean for education at the faculty from 2006 to 2013. He graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at BME in 1988 and has been teaching there ever since. He is a Ybl Miklós Award-winning lead architect and designer.
The new dean of KJK is Péter Mándoki, former Deputy Dean for Economics, Head of the Department of Railway Vehicles and Vehicle System Analysis, and associate professor. He graduated from the Faculty of Transportation Engineering at BME in 1994. In 1997, he earned a “Europäisches Diplom” from the Technical University of Dresden, followed by a degree in economics from the Budapest University of Economics.
His areas of expertise include the analysis of urban transport quality indicators and rail transport. He previously served as dean of the faculty from 2019 to 2021.
The new dean of GTK is Mária Szalmáné Csete, former International Vice Dean and habilitated associate professor at the Department of Environmental Economics and Sustainable Development. She graduated from BME GTK in 2004 with a degree in technical management, specializing in environmental management, and later pursued studies in regional planning, urban planning, and regional development at the Sorbonne in Paris.
Her research focuses on the challenges of sustainability transitions and climate change adaptation, with particular emphasis on the feasibility of innovative, integrated solutions at regional, sectoral, and corporate levels. She is a two-time recipient of the Bolyai Scholarship awarded by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
