The Head of the Most Important International Water Organization to Come to BME
2025. 09. 16.IWA Secretary General Kala Vairavamoorthy will discuss expanding cooperation and give a public lecture.
On October 1, Kala Vairavamoorthy, secretary general of the International Water Association (IWA), will visit Hungary and give a lecture at BME. The London-based global organization is becoming increasingly important due to the effects of climate change on water supply, and the visit may help Budapest become the venue for its 2032 conference.
The IWA brings together professionals and organizations working in the fields of water management, water supply, and wastewater treatment. Its goal is to promote scientific research, innovation, and sustainable solutions to address water-related challenges. It organizes conferences, research projects, and knowledge-sharing platforms, promoting technological development and the dissemination of best practices.
The main purpose of the Secretary General's visit to Budapest is to further strengthen the association's cooperation with BME, a stronghold of Hungarian water management higher education. He will hold talks with university leaders and senior Hungarian water management officials, and will give a public lecture at 11 a.m. in the ceremony hall of Building K.
"It is of particular importance for Hungary to host the secretary general of the IWA, as this not only recognizes our country's long-standing traditions in water management, but also provides an opportunity to strengthen international relations.
The visit provides an opportunity to expand scientific and industrial cooperation, share innovations, and increase the international visibility of domestic higher education in water management,"
Miklós Patziger, head of the Department of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering and main organizer of the visit, told bme.hu.
When asked about what the BME can anticipate from Kala Vairavamoorthy's negotiations, he said that he primarily expects international relations deepening and new cooperation opportunities opening up. "The meetings may contribute to BME becoming more actively involved in the IWA's global professional network. This could strengthen the international visibility of domestic research and innovation, as well as encourage student and researcher mobility," explained Miklós Patziger.
The lecture is free of charge, but registration is required here.
