Gábor Locsmándi receives Pro Urbe Budapest Award
2025. 11. 18.An urban planning expert at the Faculty of Architecture of BME, he has had a major impact on the city's development through his work as a lecturer and designer.
On Budapest Day, the Budapest Metropolitan Municipality awarded the Pro Urbe Award to Gábor Locsmándi, Ybl, Hild and Pro Régió award-winning architect and retired associate professor at the Department of Urban Planning of BME's Faculty of Architecture. He received the award in recognition of his
"outstanding theoretical and practical work in urban planning in Budapest, the introduction of international urban planning practices in Hungary, and his decades of teaching."
Gábor Locsmándi has been shaping Budapest's urban development and architecture for decades. Among other things, he was one of the creators of the Ferencváros urban rehabilitation project. He has been working at the department since 1965, serving as its head between 1999 and 2005. By teaching interdisciplinary thinking, he has influenced the vision of entire generations of architects and is considered a significant master by several Hungarian leading urban planners and chief architects. According to the faculty's website, "he has taught generations about human-scale urban renewal."
