EELISA welcomes two new associated partners
2025. 12. 10.The European university association, which includes BME among its members, gains a foothold in South America.
The University of São Paulo (USP) and the Technical University of Moldova (UTM) are joining EELISA as associated partners, it was revealed at the European university association's board meeting in Paris. The two institutions are not eligible for EU funding, but as associated partners, they are expected to contribute to help advance the alliance’s strategic goals and broaden its reach while gaining access to EELISA’s dynamic ecosystem, with opportunities for knowledge exchange and other forms of cooperation.

Partners include such renowned institutions as the École des Ponts ParisTech in France, the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität in Nuremberg, and the Technical University of Madrid. |
At the meeting, the members of the board reviewed the overall state of progress of the alliance in its first two years, outlined the roadmap toward establishing an EELISA legal entity, and approved new recommendations aimed at aimed at strengthening institutionalisation, staff engagement, and recognition across member universities.
Founded in 1934, USP is one of the world's top 200 universities, with 80,000 students, 12,000 employees, and over 580 academic programmes. It produces about 20% of Brazil’s total scientific output and is supported by a vibrant network of cultural and public outreach initiatives. UTM is Moldova's leading higher education institution in the fields of engineering, technology, and innovation. With over 12,000 students across 11 faculties, it offers study programs in Romanian, English and French, covering a broad spectrum of fields – from information technology to veterinary medicine to agriculture.

said Hasan Mandal, rector of Istanbul Technical University and new chair of the EELISA board of directors, in a statement released by EELISA. One of the outgoing co-chairs, El Mouhoub Mouhoud, head of Paris PSL University, added that the addition of the two new universities marks "the beginning of a broader international opening for EELISA."
