BME maintains its excellent position in the QS European rankings
2026. 01. 28.The university achieved good results in a much more intense competition than last year.
This year, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) published its European university rankings for the third time. BME came in 246th, improving its position by one place compared to the previous list, while maintaining its 12th place in the Eastern European region. QS ranked BME 4th among Hungarian institutions, with the top three places occupied by large comprehensive universities (ELTE, SZTE, DE).
An important difference from last year's list is that a total of 958 universities from 42 countries are included, compared to only 685 last time. In Hungary, the number of qualified institutions increased by three to 17.
Actually, there are many more higher education institutions on the continent, roughly 4,000 (including 1,500-2,000 research universities). QS therefore only deals with the top quarter of them, and BME ranks among the top 25 percent within this narrow group. It ranks ahead of such renowned Western European universities as the German Universität Duisburg-Essen, the Irish Technological University Dublin, and the Italian Università di Siena.
According to QS, BME is the best among Hungarian universities in two categories:
employer reputation, which reflects feedback from the business world, and the number of inbound exchange students coming to the institution, which is an important indicator of international integration. It ranks second in Hungary in terms of graduates' employment outcomes and the number of scientific papers per faculty member.
