BME’s International Scientific Advisory Board Holds Meeting
2026. 04. 28.The board, consisting of distinguished scholars, will also contribute to the development of the university’s new strategy.
Members of BME’s International Scientific Advisory Board, established last year, held a meeting in Budapest. The board was created to provide strategic input for strengthening research excellence and international visibility, as well as to support BME’s development with an independent, international perspective.
The members, appointed for three-years, are expected to contribute advice to deepen BME’s international relations and enhance its competitiveness, help disseminate best practices, review BME’s strategic documents, formulate recommendations, and, at the rector’s request, take a position on strategic issues. The nine internationally renowned scientists include BME alumnus and Nobel laureate Ferenc Krausz.
This time, five of them were able to attend the meeting in person — others joined via video call —, namely, Frank Fitzek (TU Dresden), Leroy Gardner (Imperial College), Jens Marklof (School of Mathematics, University of Bristol), Regis Reau (Air Liquide), and Manfred Kaltenbacher (TU Graz).
The attendees began the day with a brief campus tour, followed by lunch with the deans of the faculties. In the afternoon, they received their certificates of membership, and then the substantive work of the committee began under the leadership of Frank Fitzek, Chair of the International Scientific Advisory Board, and Gergely Zaránd, Vice Rector for Research. Among other topics, the meeting addressed BME’s new operating model, its position in international rankings, its academic performance, and the new strategy, in the review and development of which the board will also be involved.
