György Keglevich Named Among the Chemistry Europe Fellows
2026. 05. 28.The group the BME professor is joining includes three Nobel laureates, among others.
György Keglevich, a professor at the Faculty of Chemical and Bioengineering at BME, has recognized as one of the 22 new Chemistry Europe Fellows. The award, granted by the Chemistry Europe Board of Trustees back in February, was presented to the professor at the May general assembly of the Hungarian member organization, the Hungarian Chemical Society (MKE).
Chemistry Europe was founded in 1995 on the initiative of the German Chemical Society; its first journal, Chemistry: A European Journal, was also launched at that time. Today, it brings together 16 chemical societies from 15 European countries. Since 2015, it has awarded its most prestigious honor every two years to individuals who, through their enduring commitment and scientific work, have contributed to strengthening the federation’s mission.
Among previous recipients of the Chemistry Europe Fellow title are three Nobel laureates, namely Ben Feringa of the Netherlands, Jean-Marie Lehn of France, and the British-American Sir Fraser Stoddart.
György Keglevich served as chair of the awards committee at the Hungarian Chemical Society (MKE), was a member of the Executive Committee for three terms, and served as chair of the Organic and Medicinal Chemistry Section. He has been a member of the editorial board of the Hungarian Journal of Chemistry for more than two decades and has served as chair of the editorial board for the past three years. Every two years (this year for the third time), he organizes the Organic and Medicinal Chemistry Conference in Hungary. A recipient of the Károly Than Award, he publishes regularly in the journals of Chemistry Europe.
