BME Competitive Teams Introduce Themselves To Local Mayor

Újbuda Bartók Festival, the traditional end-of-summer event of Újbuda, Budapest’s 11th district’s, took place at the weekend, partly in the gardens of BME’s historic campus and partly in the surrounding streets. The university, increasing its involvement in local community life, has been an important partner of this cultural and civic festival of the neighbourhood known as the Bartók Quarter for several years.

Among other things, the event featured a tour of the National Technical Information Centre and Library (OMIKK), based at BME; the University Green Circle, in a joint tent with the Humusz Association, provided programmes on sustainability; and the BME’s competitive teams were also in attendance.

Rector Charaf Hassan visited the festival alongside Imre László, Mayor of Újbuda, and, as revealed in his Facebook post, they discussed “this year’s successes and developments for the coming academic year” with the team members.

A total of around 500 students work together in the car, rocket and solar-powered boat-building competitive teams. As reported by bme.hu, BME Motorsport had just recently achieved a fine success at an international competition.
