“Let’s Be Curious Members of the Community!”

“You are becoming members of an institution with a rich tradition, yet one that is always seeking new paths, where the engineers and innovation specialists of the future are being shaped. Be curious members of this community!” With these words, Rector Hassan Charaf welcomed BME’s new students at the opening ceremony of the university’s 245th academic year.

“Only with highly qualified, creative people can we prepare for the world that awaits us,” said Judit Lannert, minister for Education and Children’s Affairs, as she welcomed BME’s approximately 6,000 new students.

This year, Charles Simonyi was awarded the title of Professor János Neumann. The title is awarded jointly by BME and the János Neumann Computer Science Society to a scientist with internationally recognised academic achievements whose work is connected to the scientific legacy of János Neumann and who has a connection with BME.
