CESAER University Association Working Group Holds Meeting at BME
2026. 09. 21.The membership of the international organisation comprises the leading institutions in European engineering education. Active participation is of strategic importance to BME.
On 14–15 September, BME hosted a meeting of the higher education working group of CESAER (Conference of European Schools for Advanced Engineering Education and Research), the association of European universities specialising in technical higher education and research.
| Founded in 1990, CESAER brings together Europe’s leading universities with a focus on science and technology. It currently has 56 members from 25 countries, including universities such as TU Delft, ETH Zurich, EPFL in Lausanne, Aalto University in Finland, KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, TU Wien, Politecnico di Milano and KU Leuven. BME has been a member since the late 1990s and is the only institution from Hungary in the association. |
Prior to the two-day meeting, representatives of CESAER and BME’s leadership discussed further opportunities for cooperation. The University of Technology made it clear that, for it, CESAER is not merely an international association, but an important platform for professional cooperation with leading European technical universities.
On behalf of BME, András Nemeslaki, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, presented the university’s internationalisation activities, achievements and strategic directions. The meeting thus provided an opportunity not only for active participation in CESAER’s professional work, but also to highlight BME’s international standing and future plans for cooperation.

CESAER’s working groups are the organisation’s most important professional forums, where member institutions discuss current issues relating to European higher education, research and innovation. Topics at the recent meeting included the role of artificial intelligence in education, the future of teaching in the STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, mathematics), the relationship between Erasmus+ and the European Competitiveness Fund, the European Degree Label, and the issue of affordable housing for students, researchers and lecturers. The participants worked on formulating common European positions and recommendations.
The participants also discussed issues relating to CESAER’s current European policy work, with particular regard to the role of technical and scientific universities in strengthening Europe’s talent base and competitiveness. Following the professional programme, the guests visited the Zwack Unicum Plc. museum in Budapest’s Ferencváros district.
Active participation in CESAER is of strategic importance to BME: it provides an opportunity for direct exchange of experiences with leading European technical universities, sharing best practices, enhancing BME’s international visibility, including of the university’s professional perspectives in the European policy dialogue on higher education, research and innovation.
