45 years of cooperation between BME and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology

An anniversary conference was held to celebrate the pioneer initiative that preceded even establishing official diplomacy relations between the two countries.

The first educational and research agreement with the Federal Republic of Germany was made in 1970, since that time students of BME have the opportunity to study and work at one of the best technical universities of Germany. The ties got even stronger when several faculties of BME introduced German language programmes in 1992, which have become very successful. Now students can join the electrical engineering, IT engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics engineering and transport engineering programmes.

The participants placed a wreath on Emil Mosonyi, hydraulic engineer’s statue and János Józsa, member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences gave a memorial speech. The world famous professor of hydraulic engineering had close links to the Karlsruhe University of Technology, predecessor of KIT; he was teaching at the University from 1965 and he died in Karlsruhe in 2009.

Extending cooperation between the two institutions was welcomed by Kristina Steltzer, First Secretary of the German Embassy responsible for economic affairs and Erzsébet Knáb, AUDI’s Managing Director in charge of human resources. Orsolya Pröhle and Fabian Zindorf summarized the experiences of students and Márton Takács, associate professor of the Department of Manufacturing Sciences and Technology told about his memories from his student years in Karlsruhe.

Faculties of the two universities presented their research results in a professional programme in the afternoon hours.
