BME up 100 places in the World University Rankings by subject

Only four Hungarian universities made it into this year's table, which includes 720 higher education institutions.

Budapest University of Technology and Economics is ranked 401-500 in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2020 by social sciences subjects, a prestigious ranking of higher education institutions, which assesses universities by their performance in communication and media studies, politics and international studies, sociology and geography subjects. Corvinus University Budapest is ranked 301-401, while Eötvös Loránd University is at 501-600.

When comparing the results of neighbouring and Visegrád Group countries, BME outperformed the following institutions: Masaryk University; Palacký University Olomouc; Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań; AGH University of Science and Technology; University of Warsaw; University of Ljubljana, Mendel University in Brno.

The recently published THE table for social sciences subjects uses the same trusted and rigorous performance indicators as the overall World University Rankings, but the weightings have been recalibrated to suit the individual fields. The weightings for the social sciences ranking are used for five areas: teaching, research, citations, international outlook and industry income. BME's scores were the highest in the citations category.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology tops this year's table, followed by the University of Oxford in second, Harvard University in third, Stanford University in fourth and the University of Cambridge in fifth place.
