Nobel Laureate Physicist Kostya Novoselov Gives Lecture at the BME

Sir Konstantin Sergeevich Novoselov will speak at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics on September 5, 2022, from 9 a.m.

The presentation is the opening lecture of the conference Applied Mathematics without Borders.

The conference honors the 60th Birthday of Gábor Domokos, professor at BME, who initiated and oversees the Applied Mathematics Days, a series inviting world renowned scientists to Budapest, including the participants of the present conference. Tibor Czigány, Rector of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) will open the event, and  Endre Szemerédi, Abel Prize-laureate will also welcome the participants.. Sir Konstantin Sergeyevich Novoselov professor at the Centre for Advanced 2D Materials, National University of Singapore and the Langworthy Professor in the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Manchester. Professor Novoselov was born in 1974 in. He graduated from the Moscow  Institute of Physics and Technology in 1997, defended his PhD thesis at Radboud University in Nijmegen under the supervision of Andre Geim, and has been doing research at the University of Manchester and the National University of Singapore Together with Andre Geim, they discovered the method of producing graphene, and their work was recognized with the Nobel Prize in 2010. Professor Novoselov's research area is extensive: his interests range from superconductivity to ferromagnetism, from materials science to biophysics. During his pioneering work, he found the most diverse applications of graphene in the electronics, photonics, physics and chemistry of composite materials. In addition to the Nobel Prize, his research was recognized by the international scientific community with numerous other awards. He is a member of several outstanding scientific societies (Royal Society, US National Academy of Sciences).

At the September 5-6 conference, outstanding mathematicians, physicists, chemists, geologists, engineers and psychologists from renowned institutions, (e.g. University of California at Berkeley,  University of Oxford,  University of Edinburgh, University of Bristol, ETH Zürich, University of Bern, University of Toronto, Cornell University) will give lectures.
