In the framework of the Research University Programme BME prepared its comprehensive research, development and innovation strategy in 2010, which was supported by the TÁMOP project titled „Implementing a Quality-oriented, Coordinated R&D&I Strategy and Working Model at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics” (Improving the Quality of Higher Education by Developing Research, Development, Innovation and Education, TÁMOP 4.2.1/B-09/1/KMR-2010-0002).

The R&D&I strategy of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics is based on the horizontal strategic elements supporting the operation of the whole institution, and also on harmonisation of the priority research areas that are able to concentrate specific and interdisciplinary resources as well.

The R&D&I strategy has four main pillars:

  • Human Resources Development Strategy
  • Infrastructure Development Strategy
  • Strategy for Development of Priority Research Areas
  • Plan for Utilization of Scientific Results

The Research University Programme focuses on 6 priority research areas, for which specific strategies have been elaborated:

  • Sustainable energy
  • Vehicle technology, transportation and logistics
  • Biotechnology, health and environment protection
  • Nanophysics, nanotechnology and materials science
  • Intelligent environment and e-technologies
  • Disaster prevention: modern engineering methods

The Research University Programme was supported by the TÁMOP programme between 2010 and 2012; at present the project results are sustained.

Besides the priority research areas the faculties and departments of BME are working on several other research and development topics and programmes (research pages of the faculties are available here).

The industrial utilization and application of the research findings are supported and coordinated by the Technology and Knowledge Transfer Office of BME.

The main research results and findings are published in the News section of the University’s website.
