BME RANKS FIRST AGAIN AMONG HUNGARIAN ARCHITECTURE UNIVERSITIES

BME’s Faculty of Architecture is in the world’s top 30 in the Buildner University Ranking, which is based on competition results.

Buildner, formerly called Bee Breeders, is one of the world’s leading architecture competition organisers that has been ranking universities with architecture and art programmes since 2019 based on the number of architecture competitions their students entered in the previous year. In total, the Buildner Architecture University Ranking assesses the results of 1287 universities.

Similarly to last year, Buildner published its ‘All Time Best’ list also this year, which combines the results of all the previous years. Based on this, BME is in place 29 in 2023 (when this article is published) moving up 12 ranks from last year and continuing to outperform all the other Hungarian universities.

‘The professional training provided at BME’s Faculty of Architecture is complete with innovative student projects, that is why we are extremely proud of the place we earned in the Buildner ranking, which confirms that our approach is successful in international comparison as well,’ stressed György Alföldi, university professor, dean of BME’s Faculty of Architecture (BME ÉPK), concerning the result. ‘This ranking also demonstrates how our students are driven to show what they are capable of outside the university, which effort also enhances BME’s international role. This student excellence is also reflected in Hungarian rankings where we have always been number one among engineering faculties in recent years. This ranking has been directly achieved by our students who were inspired by our high quality training and excellent teachers.’

BME performed successfully in previous annual rankings as well, earning a place in the top 60 universities in 2022 and progressing to rank 31 on the Buildner list in 2023. As regards Hungarian universities, BME has been number one year by year and has been ranked first on the ‘All Time Best’ list since last year. The newly published most recent annual ranking compiled based on competition results from 2022 includes BME in place 31, followed by the University of Pécs in place 65 and the Ybl Miklós Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering of Óbuda University in place 73.
