2020

Summer School on Data-driven Economic Analysis and Decision Making

Venue: Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences, Building Q, Budapest

Date: Sunday, 19 July, 2020 to  Monday, 27 July, 2020.  POSTPONED TO SUMMER 2021

Motivation and Objectives of the Summer School

Nowadays, data-driven methods are increasingly integrated into the methodology of social sciences and economics, thanks to the growing amount of data resources and the emergence of machine learning and artificial intelligence. However, subjects offering this type of knowledge are yet less integrated into the curriculum of management and economics programs at universities around the world. Summer school students will gain insight into this interesting and useful field of science interpreted by renowned international and Hungarian lecturers. The aim of this summer school is to familiarize students with ways to obtain valuable information from business and economic data using modern approaches.

What makes us unique?
The competitive edge of this summer school is based on the synergy of the central banking and academic expertise of the organizers and lecturers. The MNB-BME Summer School is the only summer university in the Central and Eastern Europe region (CEE), which is organized jointly by a central bank and a university. Our academic team strongly integrates into the teaching material interactive sessions and simulations as well. We lay special emphasis on networking with the fellow students and lecturers during the program. We believe that education should take place in an intercultural setting to push the world to a higher level of connectivity. We are working to create you the perfect environment to be active, proactive and become part of the curriculum!

What will you learn?
Students of the summer school can learn the basics of data-driven analysis and data visualization together with their most relevant economic applications, with special emphasis on the support of data driven decision-making and storytelling with data. Students will be made familiar with the material using lectures and computer laboratories. A central element of the training is the solution of a case study performed in groups. The case study examines a current economic, business or societal problem.
