Successful Publications Are Highly Rewarded at BME
2026. 04. 17.The university’s own programme to encourage academic achievement is available to doctoral students as well.
BME is continuing its programme which directly incentivizes the publication performance of its faculty, researchers, and doctoral students. Launched last year, the programme rewards publications in high-prestige journals (SJR D1, Q1, and Q2), recognized architectural works, and Hungarian and international patents.
Eligibility for the award applies to “Article” or “Review” type publications where the author’s BME affiliation is correctly indicated alongside their name and the publication is recorded in the MTMT database. An additional requirement is that the publication date must fall within the given publication period, which for the current call is between January 1, and December 31, 2026. Awards are also granted for completed architectural works, as well as for those receiving prizes in design competitions or selected for a purchase prize; for published architectural monographs; and for international and Hungarian patents recorded in the Hungarian Scientific Bibliography (MTMT) and assigned to BME.
Faculty members and researchers employed by BME, and doctoral students at the time of publication and at the time the remuneration is due are eligible for remuneration. The amount is calculated in proportion to the number of authors, based on the formula available in this information sheet (PDF, accessible only from BME’s internal network).
An author is eligible for remuneration for all publications released during a given period; however, the maximum total remuneration is 2 million forints gross.
For architectural works, the list of accepted awards, exhibitions, and review-publishing journals will be published by the Doctoral School of Architecture. Awards are cumulative, but the total sum per completed work shall not exceed the amount calculated using the highest applicable quality multiplier. Only the author or co-author of the competition entry is eligible. Among domestic entries, only national, open competitions are considered; student design competitions are excluded. Quality multipliers of architectural works are also detailed in the document linked in the previous paragraph.
The Process
Eligibility for the award will be reviewed by BME OMIKK in collaboration with the BME Academic Directorate in the spring of 2027, based on publication data available in MTMT. As a general rule, authors do not need to apply; eligibility is automatic provided the criteria are met. An exception applies to graduating doctoral students, who must apply to the Scientific Directorate at this address at the time of their degree conferral so that their publications released during the publication period up to the time of degree conferral may be eligible for rewards under the program.
Eligibility will be assessed in spring 2027 by the BME Library (OMIKK) in cooperation with the Directorate for Scientific Affairs, based on publication data available in MTMT. As a general rule, authors do not need to apply — eligibility is granted automatically upon meeting the criteria. As an exception, graduating doctoral candidates must apply during their degree award period here to ensure that their publications up to graduation are included.
The review of 2025 publications will conclude shortly, and authors are expected to receive their awards in April and May.
