Garden of Wonders: Újbuda welcomes ideas from BME’s students

BME and Insert invite inter-faculty teams of students for a design contest for outdoor installations to promote science.

The call for entries , published on 25 April, is open to teams of BME students with active student status in three categories: (1.) designing artwork and installations for outdoor play to promote science, (2.) designing outdoor furniture, or (3.) organising events to promote science and build communities.

The deadline for submitting entries is 25 May. The competition aims to produce artwork and programmes that reflect the treasured features of the University’s garden and the research conducted at the BME, as well as the needs of local residents. A key aim is to create art and installations for outdoor play and organise events to introduce young children and secondary school students to interesting facts and findings related to the various research projects conducted at the University.

The selected entries will be implemented in the area of the University’s garden close to Gellért Square, bordered by the CH, K and Library buildings.

The winning entries will be showcased on 2 September 2023 as part of Bartók Fest.

A total of HUF 2.800.000 will be available for the successful candidates to implement their project plans.  In addition to the money, the teams will be offered professional consultation with experts including architects and heritage preservation specialists to finalise their submitted designs.

The design competition, issued jointly by BME and the Municipality of Újbuda’s Insert platform is the first step of a long-term process, which started by a cooperation agreement signed by BME and the district  with the aim to strengthen the university’s links with the district, promote the development of BME’s community spaces and encourage creative initiatives within the university.
