Cuisines from a dozen countries were showcased at the International Dinner
2026. 04. 29.Despite the wind, the outdoor venue worked out perfectly, with nearly 300 students sampling each other’s dishes.
Ten Hungarian and eleven foreign cooking teams participated in this year’s International Dinner in the garden of BME’s K building. The international representatives were teams from Tunisia, Laos, Bangladesh, Georgia, Mongolia, Italy, Pakistan, Japan, Palestine, and Iran, as well as a joint Nigerian-Ghanaian team.
Nearly 300 people, plus the cooking team members, showed up at the event, organized by the BME International Mentor Team — which supports international students — and the BME Students’ Union. The new outdoor venue turned out to be a resounding success, as can be seen in the video below:
The menu was truly diverse; in addition to meat and meatless dishes, many also prepared desserts — in some cases on-site, which wasn’t exactly easy due to the wind. The chefs’ dedication is evident in the fact that most used authentic spices from home. The local teams served goulash, lángos, and pancakes, among other things.
What it means to students to showcase their country’s culinary traditions is well illustrated by a LinkedIn post from one of the Tunisian participants, which can be read here.
